Do you want to learn more about geography? Are you looking for a way to map out your neighborhood or school? If so, ArcGIS is the perfect tool for you! ArcGIS is a mapping software that allows users to create maps, analyze data, and share their findings with others. It is used by students, businesses, government organizations, and more.
Many online courses, college courses, and computer labs have access to ArcGIS desktop, ArcGIS Pro, and more. If you're able to get a code for your own account, you'll be able to have an ArcGIS Online account as well. Just want a class? Click here to read my in-depth review!
What Classes Offer An ArcGIS License
My preferred class for learning ArcGIS is the one I used: UC Davis' Coursera GIS specialization. The course author, Nick Santos, helps you develop both the book learning background and the technical skills to do basic cartography in ArcGIS.
Learning technical skills in ArcGIS Desktop can feel hard. Even though the software offers full capability for student use, the fact remains that many tasks on the ArcGIS platform do not feel natural at first. Self paced e-learning is a great way to overcome this issue because you can revisit videos and learn skills at your own pace.

The UC Davis specialization does offer an ArcGIS Pro license for all students. It also gives access to ArcGIS online credentials. Once activated, these ArcGIS pro licenses last for up to a year, but they can be extended if you contact the UC Davis Coursera help.
How To Install ArcGIS Pro and ArcMap
After you get access to ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Desktop, and ArcGIS online, you'll need to download the first two software. You can access the downloads by logging into your ArcGIS online organization. If you're having issues (it happens, ESRI is massive!) - you can just contact ESRI and they will help you figure it out.
Reasons You Might Want To Learn ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Desktop
Here are a few reasons why students should learn to use ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS online, and ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap). From learning technical skills to premium data access, there are a lot of reasons to understand the ArcGIS platform.
Reason 1: ArcGIS is user-friendly and easy to learn
If you're looking for a user-friendly and easy-to-learn GIS software, then ArcGIS is a great option. Even if you're new to GIS, ArcGIS is designed in a way that makes it simple to get started. The software is organized in a way that makes sense, and the tools are straightforward to use.
ArcGIS undergoes regular updates and the system requirements are reasonable. You are able to use ArcGIS Desktop in other languages. While it is a lot to download and install, it shouldn't take more than an hour or two with a fast internet connection.
Plus, there's a wealth of online resources available to help you learn ArcGIS. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced GIS user, ArcGIS is definitely worth checking out.
Reason 2: ArcGIS is a great tool for mapping and spatial analysis
As anyone who has ever tried to find their way around a new city knows, maps are essential for navigation. But maps are more than just a way to find your way from Point A to Point B. They can also be used for analysis, helping us to understand the world around us in new and different ways. This is where ArcGIS comes in. ArcGIS is a tool that allows users to create and interact with maps, performing spatial analysis and uncovering patterns that would otherwise be hidden. It's an essential tool for anyone interested in understanding and working with data, and it's one of the reasons why I believe that ArcGIS is such a great tool.
Reason 3: ArcGIS can be used for research projects or in the classroom
ArcGIS is a powerful mapping and analysis tool that can be used for a variety of purposes. For example, it can be used to study the spread of a disease, track the movement of wildlife, or monitor changes in the environment.
Additionally, ArcGIS can be used to create custom maps and diagrams, which can be helpful for presentations or class projects. Best of all, ArcGIS is easy to use and provides a user-friendly interface. As a result, it is an ideal tool for students and researchers alike. Whether you are working on a school project or conducting important research, ArcGIS can help you get the job done.
Reason 4: ArcGIS has many applications in the real world
ArcGIS is a powerful mapping and analysis software that is used by governments, businesses, and individuals around the world. The software has many applications in the real world, including urban planning, disaster relief, and environmental conservation. In urban planning, ArcGIS can be used to create maps that show the location of streets, buildings, and other features.
This information can be used to study traffic patterns, population density, and other factors that impact the design of cities. In disaster relief, ArcGIS can be used to create maps of areas affected by natural disasters. This information can be used to identify evacuation routes and provide assistance to those in need. In environmental conservation, ArcGIS can be used to create maps that show the distribution of plants and animals. This information can be used to assess the impact of human activity on ecosystems and develop strategies for conservation. ArcGIS is a versatile tool that has many applications in the real world.
Learning ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap), or ArcGIS online can help you be more attractice to future employers. You may be able to volunteer time on noncommercial projects to learn skills. You might be able to get a volunteer opportunity, internship, or even a job with your new ArcGIS skills.
